on the angry bus
Let the drinking commence
Saturday, July 24
Started off innocently enough, load up our stuff on the Team Angry bus and make the trip up to Rock Rapids. Somehow the Angry girls ended up in Bellevue (NE) instead of Papillion and that caused a slight delay in departure. How to pass the time? A beer or two in the church parking lot. Drinking this early without riding...this can't be good for anyone. After hitting the road, the drinking doesn't stop. Beer, beer, beer, cookie, beer, beer, extra chewy jerky, beer, beer. How do you work this toilet on the bus? Hope nobody takes a dump in there, Ben or Jim. Finally arrive and sober enough to set up my tent and talk on the patio. John Freitag stops by and the Die Hard connection rekindled. An evening haze descends over my brain and a few things escape me: the rest of my team arriving, biking to get beer (Hooch...argh). May have gone to the beer garden, asked everyone for bread (what the hell is that all about?) and stumbled about the town. So glad someone poured me into my tent.

Why is it that every RAGBRAI starts off with a hangover? Husker Barbie starts fellating Bondage Joey. Don't hit the road until after 9:00. When you leave late, sometimes the route out of town isn't clear. After a couple of miles, we realize that the road we're on isn't the right one. Damian and the crew take a turnoff a mile or so back. Not wanting to backtrack, ask a local the best way to George. The crowd of bikers who stopped are mighty glad that that driveway contained informed folk. The wayward group gets into George and are treated with free muffins and ice cream. Benefits of being late. Meet up with Heidi in Melvin. A town of no shade (this will be a reoccurring theme) and a kid who won't lay off the damn tractor horn. Maybe that's the sound of a moose farting. Two points in the bar: the Marsha Traeger point and the Arva point. Along the route meet up with two good party teams: Haze and Evil. Shoot the breeze in Harley with Haze and bike behind the butts of Evil into Spencer. Damian and Laurie wonder if we're welcome. We're Martini's, of course we're welcome. Brady and Mandy get us supplies at Casey's. Yeah for Joni's offspring. Chicken grill out...when's the last time we did this. Heidi and Steve are scared of bugs must hide in the Ho Tent. Fireworks. Center of intersection is good viewing. Rainy night #1. A night of tropical drinks in the garage. Sorry about getting you in trouble Brady and friend. Sleep...sleep...sleep...loud music...2:00 a.m....Bryan...shut that damn thing off...need keys, see Steve...mummify...sleep...sleep.

Mandy you're in all our thoughts.
